Talk Less, Say More is a concise book delivering a powerful message on communicating effectively. The author, Connie Dieken, explains her 3C methodology of communication:
- Connect
- Convey
- Convince
The book is easy to digest, and the information is dispensed in bite sized pieces. The format of the book is such that the author expects you to take time putting into practice each section prior to moving ahead. She also offers summaries at the end of each section which allows one to do a self-assessment, reflect on possible areas of improvement and take action towards self-improvement. Personally, I would have preferred a few more examples to get this book up to a 5 star rating but the material itself is more than sufficient to make communication improvements in one’s life.
Below are a few quotes I really enjoyed from the book:
“Give people what they want and value up front”
Connie Dieken
“If you simply zero in on what matters most to your audience, they’ll reward you by paying attention”
Connie Dieken
“Aim for the heart, not the head”
Connie Dieken
“The more inflammatory the question, the more calmly your answer should be delivered”
Connie Dieken
“Don’t be overly rigid in defending your stance or you’ll alienate others and miss opportunities to make your great idea even better”
Connie Dieken
